Kelimutu
The lakes used to be red white and blue, and local tradition has it that the spirits of the dead ascend the mountain and reside in the lake most suitable for their behaviour on earth, so for instance evil people went to the red lake. After an earthquake in 1992 the level of the lakes dropped and changed colour over night to their current configuration of green, chocolate and black.
