Qualifications to be leader of one of Indonesia's most important political parties:
Well-connected (Being the son of widely despised former military dictator Suharto should be no barrier, surely?)
Fabulous criminal record (Let's not allow a conviction for organising the murder of Supreme Court Justice Syafiuddin Kartasasmita get in the way of things!)
Stupendously corrupt (it's an inherited trait, so it seems unfair to punish the son for the sins of the father)
Rich (As the Jakarta Globe reports: 'anyone who wanted to be chairman must also be “well nourished,"' How did he get so rich? Well, see above...)
So who is this paragon of civic duty whom is so keen to take on the mantle of selfless public service?
I give you: Tommy Suharto!
His bid is in full swing apparently. Like his golf, no doubt.
Begituhlah Indonesia!
Maybe Mark Thatcher should move here...
